Speech

Amanda Lee Falkenberg
WIFT Dubai
SPEECH March 8th 2009
My name is Amanda Lee Falkenberg and I am a film music composer having
lived in Dubai for the past 5 years.
I would just like to say how inspired and passionate I feel about
this event today, and what a privilege it has been for me to be involved
in the manifestation of this extraordinary and
historic moment for the Middle Eastern Film and Television industry.
From it’s beginning days the 35-year old Los Angeles institution
has grown from 2 members to over 10,000 and now Dubai can celebrate
this incredible moment where the Middle East finally joins hands with
their international sisters to salute creative achievements of Women
in Film and Television.
In these uncertain global times, I find the establishment of WIFT
Dubai like a “Beckon of Light”
The positive energy that emanates from this organization seems to
be precisely the anecdote that our Film and Television Industry is
crying out for. The timing seems impeccable - The heart beat of this
newly established Dubai Chapter is now finally in sync with the 35
year old WIFT international institution who have been extraordinarily
supportive of the efforts that have gone into making this day possible.
A group of hard working women have gathered together over the last
month to launch WIFT as we were keen on creating a platform that recognizes
professional excellence achieved by women in all areas of the industry,
to celebrate creativity and imagination and to provided a unique forum
for communication, professional development and networking.
Besides WIFT being a brilliant platform for like-minded creative professionals
looking for opportunities to network and collaborate the objectives
of WIFT are clear:
* To promote diverse and positive representation of women in screen
based media
* To Promote and Honor women's achievements
* To stimulate and inspire creativity.
* And finally, to provide a nourishing environment for artistic integrity
and truth to flourish.
WIFT Dubai is excited about forging strong bonds with new members,
sponsors and partners and feels inspired by their leadership and social
responsibilities that are bestowed
upon them.
Thank you so much for your attendance, support and encouragement as
we honor the work
of our sisters in the Film and Television Industry on International
Women’s day, Celebrating Creative Women!
